Scorpion pepper

Family: Solanaceae
Genus: Capsicum
Species: Capsicum Chinense
Cultivar: Trinidad Scorpion Butch T, Moruga Scorpion

Same species as the Habanero pepper (Capsicum Chinense), the Trinidad Scorpion Butch T is a derivative of Trinidad Scorpion from the Trinidad and Tobago region.
Its creator Butch Taylor from Louisiana made it the strongest pepper of the world in 2011. It was tested in laboratory at 1,463,700 Scovilles units and was dethroned by the Carolina Reaper in 2013. Its name comes from the shape of this pepper that strangely look like a scorpion sting.
This pepper is less fruity than a classic Habanero pepper but strongly hotter. Less used for traditional hot sauces, it is easily used for the creation of challengers sauces.
